Creating Memorable Experiences
Locatour exists to do one thing: help people create memorable experiences out in the world.
That sentence is our whole compass. Every feature in the app is judged against it. If something makes the game more fun on the couch but less likely to get you somewhere worth remembering, we don’t build it.
Why a game?
Section titled “Why a game?”Getting outdoors is good for us, and we all know it — yet the day slips by and we never go. A great game is one of the most reliable ways to turn “I should” into “I did.” Locatour borrows the gentle pull of levelling up, streaks, and discovery, and points it at something genuinely worthwhile: standing in a real place, looking at a real view, making a real memory.
The points are a means, not the end. Nobody remembers the experience bar filling up. They remember the lookout at golden hour, the waterfall they’d never have found, the morning their kid asked to “go check in somewhere new.”
Public places, owned by everyone
Section titled “Public places, owned by everyone”Locatour is deliberately built around public, non-commercial land — state, national, and council-owned parks, reserves, beaches, lookouts, trails, and monuments. These places belong to all of us, they’re free to enjoy, and they’re often overlooked. Sending people to them is a civic act: it builds connection to your neighbourhood, your city, and your state.
We don’t send you to businesses, and we don’t sell your attention to them.
Explore gently — conservation by design
Section titled “Explore gently — conservation by design”Some of the most special places are also the most fragile: a quiet waterfall, a small reserve with no car park, a stretch of coast that a crowd would ruin. Locatour is designed so those places aren’t blasted to everyone at once. They open up gradually, to explorers who’ve shown they’re invested — which keeps the visitor numbers gentle and the experience special. The game’s progression doubles as crowd control and care for the land. You can read how that works in Hidden locations.
What we’re really building
Section titled “What we’re really building”A reason to go. A nudge toward the door. A scoreboard for a life spent a little more outside — and a quiet way to look after the places that make it worth the trip.
That’s Locatour. Now go make a memory.
