Privacy Policy
Effective date: 29 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Hatchet Pty Ltd (“Locatour”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Locatour mobile app and related services (the “Service”).
By using Locatour, you agree to this Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.
1. Information we collect
Section titled “1. Information we collect”Information you provide
- Account details — such as your name, avatar, and the email address or sign-in identifier you register with.
- Profile preferences — the interest categories you select.
Information from playing the game
- Location data — at the time you check in, we collect your device’s GPS position and accuracy to verify you are at a location. By default we do not collect your location in the background. If you opt in to Nearby alerts (see Section 3), we additionally use background location to notify you when you are near a location, matched against nearby places on your device.
- Photos — the photos you take in the app when you check in.
- Gameplay data — your check-ins, experience, levels, streaks, achievements, and history.
Information collected automatically
- Device and usage data — basic technical information such as device type, operating system, app version, and diagnostic/crash data, used to operate and improve the Service.
We do not knowingly collect more than we need to run the game.
2. How we use your information
Section titled “2. How we use your information”We use your information to:
- Provide the core game — verify check-ins, award experience, and track your progress.
- Personalise the places and content we show you based on your interests.
- Maintain your history of visited places and photos.
- Keep the game fair and secure, and detect or prevent cheating, fraud, and abuse.
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the Service.
- Communicate with you about the Service (for example, important notices).
- Comply with legal obligations.
3. Location data
Section titled “3. Location data”Location is central to Locatour. By default, we use your device’s location only at the moment you check in, to confirm you are physically at a place, and we do not run background location tracking.
Optional background location (Nearby alerts). You may choose to enable “Nearby alerts,” which uses your device’s background location to notify you when you are near a Locatour place — including when the app is closed. This feature:
- is off by default and never enabled without your action;
- requests background (“allow all the time”) location permission only after an in-app explanation of what it does;
- matches your approximate position against nearby places on your device to trigger notifications, and does not create a stored history of your movements;
- can be turned off at any time via the in-app toggle or your device settings, which stops background location use immediately.
We do not sell or share your location data. You can disable location access at any time in your device settings, but check-ins will not work without location-while-using.
4. Camera and photos
Section titled “4. Camera and photos”We access your camera so you can take a check-in photo live in the app. Your check-in photos are stored as part of your gameplay history. We do not access your camera or photo library except for the in-app check-in capture.
5. How we share information
Section titled “5. How we share information”We do not sell your personal data. We may share information only:
- With service providers who help us operate the Service (for example, hosting and infrastructure), under obligations to protect it.
- To comply with law, enforce our terms, or protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the public.
- In connection with a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition), subject to this Policy.
6. Data retention
Section titled “6. Data retention”We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and as required to meet legal, security, and fraud- prevention obligations. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal data, except where we must retain it by law.
7. Your rights and choices
Section titled “7. Your rights and choices”Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can:
- Access your history in the app at any time.
- Manage permissions (location, camera) in your device settings.
- Delete your account and data by using the in-app option where available, or by contacting us at support@hatchet.com.au.
We will respond to requests as required by applicable law.
8. Children’s privacy
Section titled “8. Children’s privacy”Locatour is not directed to children under the age required by your local law (for example, under 13 in the United States), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us at support@hatchet.com.au and we will take appropriate steps.
9. Security
Section titled “9. Security”We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information in transit and at rest, and we limit access to it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. International users
Section titled “10. International users”Your information may be processed in countries other than your own. Where we transfer data, we take steps to protect it consistent with this Policy and applicable law.
